Daddy Rings is born Everold Dwyer in 1971 in Manchester, Jamaica. Like many young Jamaicans he is magically attracted by the music of the sound systems. So he make his first musical experiences on his uncle’s sound system. Whenever the “Culture Shanty Hi-Fi” plays Daddy Rings is not far and wants to hold the microphone. His talent is obvious and through the encouragement and the reactions of his community he decides to go to Kingston by the age of 18. Daddy Freddy aka Frederick Nelson, was born and raised in Trenchtown Kingston, Jamaica in 1965. In 1973-74 from the tender age of 8 years old, he started to develop his talent for performing lyrics at house parties and dances on local reggae sound systems. He got his 1st big break around 1983-84 when he won the prestigious Tastees Talent Contest having been runner up to General Trees (Black Scorpio) for the previous three years, it was at that point he decided to take over his uncles sound system called Wildbunch who had a big oldies following, but Freddy wanted to

Cornadoor is a young and talented Reggae artist from Bielefeld, Germany. “Reggae has always been around me!” Due to his fathers large and well sorted record collection, Cornadoor was infected by the reggae virus in his early childhood. Lots of long journeys to Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago, first with his family and later on his own, manifested his interest for the music. What a night for roots, rock & reggae brought to you by G’s Jamaican Cuisine and The Kansas City Reggae Community. Kicking off the night was Indika Band hailing from Chicago with each member coming from their own cultural background, thus adding a special element to the overall sound. The band consisted of Band leader and bassist Courtney Panton, Lead vocalist Uroy Muslar, Daron Walker on drums, Keyboardist Ryan Coleman and Guitarist Gerald “Toto” Alfred. Indika Band delivered to us classic covers from artist like Sanchez to Beres Hammond, and even some of their own original pieces as well! Next

Kabaka Pyramid live. This summer and autumn has seen something that is rare these days for reggae in the UK, that being UK reggae tours and the artists that had the pleasure being Chronixx and Protoje. Another artist from the same Jamaican roots ‘revival’ family is Kabaka Pyramid and he has followed in their footsteps with a short tour, but a UK tour nonetheless. When I hear Black Uhuru live, I instantly think “Legends, pioneers, roots!” How could you not!? This grammy award winning group has been active since the 1970’s and has since had great success. Opening up the night at Sankofa Cafe was Elisha Israel & The Az-One Band, an eclectic Kansas City based Reggae band going strong since the 90’s.
