Biography

Vysionaer

11/4/2026By Gav Pauze

Vysionaer, born Delroy Brown, is a roots reggae singer from Rose's Valley in St Elizabeth, Jamaica. His music draws on the cultural reggae tradition, with lyrics addressing Rastafari, relationships and everyday struggles. His singing moves between a deep, measured delivery and more forceful passages, giving his recordings a distinctive character.

His musical influences include Peter Tosh, Joseph Hill of Culture, Jacob Miller and The Gladiators. In a 2020 Jamaica Observer interview, Vysionaer spoke about the importance of finding producers who respected his own sound rather than changing it to follow current trends.

First Recordings and Producers

Vysionaer began recording around 2012, releasing Waah Come Home through Sajay Productions. By 2014, he had also recorded Make It Through with veteran Jamaican producer Bobby Digital.

An important new working relationship began in 2018 with Anthony Senior, founder of Al.Ta.Fa.An Records. Senior was already established in roots reggae, having produced music for artists including Luciano, Junior Kelly and Chezidek. His experience offered Vysionaer an opportunity to develop a more substantial project after several years of releasing singles.

Their first collaboration was Bring Back Love, released in May 2018. It used a riddim previously heard on Youth by Jah Vibe and Anthony B, placing Vysionaer's vocals within the label's established roots reggae sound. The pair continued working together through 2018, leading to his debut EP the following year.

Their partnership was particularly important because it gave Vysionaer the opportunity to present a collection of songs under one producer, rather than simply releasing another single.

The Debut EP

Released in May 2019 through Al.Ta.Fa.An Records, Soldier featured five songs: Bring Back Love, If You Don't Mind, Marley, No Stoping and Soldier Man. Senior's production combined traditional reggae rhythms with touches of soul and funk, while the arrangements gave Vysionaer room to move between restrained singing and more powerful vocals.

The songs covered faith, relationships and social issues. Marley acknowledged one of reggae's most influential musicians, while Soldier Man drew on Senior's own experience serving in the military.

The EP marked a significant step in Vysionaer's recording career, bringing several sides of his songwriting together in one release. It also introduced listeners to the variety in his delivery, from the lower tones of the opening tracks to the more emphatic singing on No Stoping.

Addis Connection

Vysionaer also worked with Swiss label Addis Records, releasing My Defense on the Pilgrim Riddim, Blood and Bread in 2019 and Hard and Dread in 2020. Other recordings included Old Talking in 2021 and Call the Ganjaman in 2022, as he continued collaborating with different producers.

Live Performances

His work has extended beyond the recording studio. In 2023, Vysionaer was announced for the Summer Love Festival in Portland, Oregon, on a line-up featuring Yami Bolo, Ginjah and A J Brown.

Further live appearances have included performances at Brooklyn Bowl, with footage documenting his performance of Realness. These shows have given Vysionaer opportunities to present his music directly to reggae audiences outside Jamaica.

The Sanity Riddim

In 2023, Vysionaer appeared on the Sanity Riddim, produced by Shayne Green for Forever Music Productions. His song Deep Dark Sea paired soulful vocals with flute and electric piano, addressing the difficulty of navigating life's challenges.

The recording was highlighted in Pauzeradio's review of the Sanity Riddim, alongside contributions from Aaron Silk, Perfect Giddimani and other reggae artists.

Collaborations and Recent Releases

In 2025, Vysionaer collaborated with Brooklyn-based reggae band SunDub on Realness, released as part of the Brooklyn Riddim project through Easy Star Records. Produced by Sidney Mills and Ben Teters, the project also featured contributions from The Meditations, Mo'Kalamity and Kumar.

His recording career continued into 2026 with Bad News Bug, produced by Sidney Mills and released through SPI Music, alongside another recording with Al.Ta.Fa.An Records titled Grant I. These latest releases followed more than a decade of recording with Jamaican and international producers, adding to a steadily growing catalogue of roots reggae music.
