Total Satisfaction Records was established by Leon Smillie on November 6th 2001. With the vision of bringing forward the quality and sound that he felt the reggae industry was lacking, he started up this music company.
A New York based company which has produced veteran artists such as: Burro Banton, Frankie Paul, Half Pint, King Kong, Sizzla, Lutan Fyah, Tony Curtis, Anthony B, Major Mackerel, Merciless, Jah Mason, and many more.
With an extensive background in the music industry, Leon has taken his career from being a student of music, stemming from the Ska era to being an entertainer formerly known as Lion Ranks, now known as Batchelor. A talented producer with the ear to hear and create great tracks not limiting Total Satisfaction Records, the company, to one sound he has worked with numerous top shelf musicians such as Sly & Robbie, Robbie Lyn, Fire House Crew, Chinna Smith, Sidney Mills just to name a few and has recorded in a variety of studios.
The first contribution from Total Satisfaction Records to the music world was a dancehall compilation called Body Bag Riddim. This broke the company into the world as an enterprise that would go the extra mile to produce good quality music. Several tracks were listed in different countries around the world on various charts. With this experience obtained from the venture the company decided to throw its hat in a different direction by recording ,roots reggae, ska, Gospel as well as Lovers Rock tracks.
In a review taken from Jamaica’s X-News it states that Total Satisfaction Records is on the right track and that big things are expected from the company. Singles from the Total Satisfaction Records compilation have pushed the company into the big ring with top producers of the industry.
The success of his singles released on the label propelled him to continue his production roles for the label. With the completion of Heartaches and Pain Riddim, a compilation that features the likes of Freddie McGregor, Luciano, Lukie D, Jah Mason, George Nooks and more, the demand for more original, quality tracks are to this day present. Even though based in New York the company keeps close to the root of it all, Jamaica. Travel to and from Jamaica is a part of the quest to seek out those with the drive and talent to help bring forward the riches of reggae music to the forefront.
Over the years the company has grown and the sound has matured. Total Satisfaction Records has garnered worldwide attention and respect as a label that produces fine quality music.
