Chezidek Biography:

Born Desbert Johnson on June 20, 1973, in Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica, Chezidek is a prominent figure in the roots reggae genre, known for his authentic sound, spiritually infused lyrics, and commitment to spreading messages of love, unity, and consciousness through his music.

Raised in a musical household, Chezidek was exposed to the rich sounds of reggae from a young age. Influenced by legends like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Burning Spear, he developed a deep appreciation for the genre’s ability to address social issues and uplift communities.

Chezidek’s musical journey began in the late 1990s when he started recording and performing on local sound systems in Jamaica. His soulful voice and introspective lyrics quickly garnered attention, earning him recognition within the vibrant Jamaican music scene. It wasn’t long before he caught the ears of producers and fellow musicians, leading to collaborations and recording opportunities.

In 2002, Chezidek released his debut album, “Harvest Time,” which received widespread acclaim for its powerful blend of roots reggae rhythms and conscious lyrics. His sophomore album, “Inna Di Road,” released in 2007, further solidified his position as a leading figure in the roots reggae revival movement. Throughout his career, Chezidek’s music has been characterised by its spiritual depth, cultural consciousness, and unwavering commitment to authenticity. In 2014, Chezidek released his highly anticipated album, “The Order of Melchezedik,” which further showcased his growth as an artist and songwriter. The album received widespread critical acclaim for its innovative sound and thought-provoking lyrics, solidifying Chezidek’s reputation as a modern-day roots reggae icon. Tracks like “All My Life” and “Inna Di Road” resonated with audiences worldwide, earning Chezidek new fans and reaffirming his status as a trailblazer in the genre.

After 9 good albums like Inna the Road (Greensleeves), Harvest Time and Rising Sun (VP), Firm Up Yourself (No Doubt Records), Mash Dem Down (Altafaan) I-grade (Sly & Robby) Herbalist (Tads records) and Judgment Time (Jahsolid Rock) which gained a lot of traction in Europe (one of the best selling reggae albums) and in 2023 Never Stop (Irie Ites).

As of 2024, Chezidek continues to be an active and influential figure in the roots reggae community, tirelessly touring and recording music that inspires, uplifts and educates. With a career spanning over two decades, Chezidek’s legacy as a champion of roots reggae music is firmly established, and his influence on future generations of artists remains profound. Through his timeless music and unwavering commitment to social justice, Chezidek continues to carry the torch of reggae’s revolutionary spirit into the 21st century.
