Clatta Bumboo – Attraction – Press Release

Press Release: Clatta Bumboo has just taken over Lovers Rock with his brand-new release.

Emerging Roots artist Clatta Bumboo only just released his brand-new album in November 2023. However, never one to rest on his laurels he’s already returning with another fresh track.

Attraction, released via Black River Sonics on 29 March 2024, sees this accomplished singer, songwriter, and producer return with a new sound – different to that of his previous work.

The track is the first release since Clatta’s astonishing album Make Way Rasta – a veritable feast of deep Roots Reggae that swept across styles and contained a brilliant compendium of important and pertinent narratives. Now, Attraction kind-of picks up where the album left off – but moves this artist’s career further forward again. Clatta dabbled in Lovers Rock on the album cut Got What I Want – but here, he fully embraces it.

He said of the style-shift:

“The responsibility of Rasta music is comprehensive at the root. A Clatta Bumboo love song was way overdue, as I for a long time now recognise the need to remind people that love expresses is a love that stands to inspire love; especially love encouraged among young people”.

Mr Topple of Pauzeradio said of Attraction:

“Clatta doing Lovers Rock? Who would have thought it. Well, if you listened carefully to the album Make Way Rasta then you would have noticed him nod to the genre – but here, he sings it with his chest. Attraction is a full-throttle Lovers cut, full of those sumptuous sounds and lyrics the genre became famous for. Clatta does it brilliantly – showing that he could be the next King of the genre”.

Attraction is a fresh, summery, upbeat affair that sees Clatta channel the vibes of 90’s Lovers Rock. The instrumental arrangement is perfection: the bass drops a beat, while drums run a one drop, and keys perform the classic Reggae bubble rhythm. Gorgeous attention to detail flows – like the pleasing horn section and smooth backing vocals. The attractive chord progressions cement the sound, as does the warm and rich final mastering.

Lyrically, Clatta has delivered a well-constructed essay on spiritual love. Instead of any slackness – as some of his peers may do – here he instead portrays a narrative on true, once-in-a-lifetime love, where a spiritual and emotional connection is shared.

His vocals across the track are something of the Soul: impassioned and well-executed, his gravely tone is perfectly suited to the Lovers Rock genre. He makes great use of dynamics; performs well-controlled riffs and runs and treats us with some pleasing interpretation of the lyrical content.

Clatta hopes that listeners pick up on:

“The message that is put forward to inspire positive change and encourage balance. Yah man, a small reminder that we can and should express the love we feel”.

Overall, Attraction is a sumptuous cut showing Clatta to be equally at home in Lovers Rock. In fact, he may have just set the standard in 2024 for the genre.
