Afrikan Simba Biography:

Born January 11, 1967, in Hackney, East London, UK, Afrikan Simba is a well-known personality in roots reggae. His musical path has a strong foundation that reflects a link to its beginnings, and he is committed to using his art to communicate positive messages.

Early on in life, Afrikan Simba spent a lot of time travelling between London and Nigeria. He left his parents’ house at the age of thirteen and went on a long trip in Nigeria before coming back to London at sixteen.

His early years in the UK were spent surrounded by Rastafari philosophy and reggae music. He was exposed to sound systems when he was just twelve years old, playing the part of a mic guy for a sound called Exodus. Though at first he played the recorder, violin, and drum kit, his attention soon turned to singing.

The reggae greats Jah Thomas, Trinity, U-Roy, and I Roy served as inspiration for Afrikan Simba. Under the supervision of mentors like Jah Bones, the depth of Rastafari culture and the diversity of reggae sound systems has impacted his creative orientation.

Once he became well-known in the thriving London music scene, Afrikan Simba worked with a number of sound systems and producers. He became well-known for his expressive voice and reflective words. Echoing his ardent Rastafarian views, his music evolved into a means of addressing social and spiritual issues.

Midway through the 1990s and early 2000s saw the release of a number of singles and collaborations that marked his breakthrough. Notably, aided by his connection to his sound Zulu Priest, he recorded his debut album with the reknowned musician and producer Dub Judah. His catalogue now includes recordings on labels including Jah Warrior, Sirus Records, and Channel One.

Afrikan Simba has followed Rastafarian values his entire career, using his music to promote social consciousness, love, and harmony. His real connection with his audience and charismatic stage presence define his live performances.

Afrikan Simba has collaborated with a number of reggae musicians and producers, notably Kris Kemist of Reality Shock Records, adding to the genre’s varied environment. While staying a major presence in both UK and Jamaican reggae circles, he focuses on recording with producers outside of the UK and touring the world to convey the positive messages of roots reggae music.

Having decades of experience, Afrikan Simba is a seasoned veteran who, via his music, embodies the spirit of constructive advocacy and cultural preservation.
