Miriam Simone – Mount Zion – Review

Miriam Simone hails from out of Holland. She started to sing at a young age, honing her voice in choirs and as a backing singer and in various groups and bands.

In 2010 Miriam kicked off her solo career and co-founded the Dredda Records label. 2012 she brought you the great Ep “Follow My Dreams” with tracks produced by Bobby Digital who she has worked closely with for some years. Now in 2015 Miriam Simone and Dredda Records bring you the greatly uplifting Debut Album, “Mount Zion”

The album kicks off with the title track itself ‘Mount Zion’, up next you are treated to ‘Give Thanks and Praise’ which starts with a great piano intro before it rapidly kicks off with a one drop rhythm, also on the album are the singles ‘His Kingdom Arise’ featuring Lutan Fyah, ‘Weh Mi Money Deh’ which you can also find on the ‘Honour Riddim’ and also ‘Rivers’ the latest single release which is doing very well.

Other stand out tracks on the album are the ska fuelled rendition of Nina Simone’s ‘My Baby Just Cares’ the acoustic ‘No Place Like Home’ and the Nyabinghi vibes of ‘Mother Earth’.

All together it’s a great album shinning with quality and a real musical message, it’s also great to hear real instruments and the players being credited also. 14 tracks of pure musical niceness, very uplifting,
