Eloquent

R.I.P Eloquent.

It is not the norm to meet a Reggae/Dancehall artiste today who quickly credits God for being their motivator. But maybe this is just the tip of the iceberg as to why a singjay simply known as, Eloquent is not your typical artiste.

“God motivates me. Sometimes when I’m on the streets, a song will just pop up in my head and I know it’s God,” comments a calm-spirited but confident Eloquent. “I want to make positive music that uplifts the world.”

Signed to Yellow Moon Records, owned and operated by Irie FM’s DJ Sunshine, Eloquent is already working on an album. Now eight singles deep, he has teamed up with the Reggae/ Dancehall hitmakers of Burchill Records, Jukeboxx Productions and Yellow Moon Records to make his dream a reality. “Right now, I’m pushing ‘Did You Pray’ (Yellow Moon), ‘Non-stop’ (Burchill) and ‘Glorify’ (Burchill). He met Sunshine through a mutual friend. She eventually heard one of his songs and since then, the rest, as they say, is history. “I’ve been working with Sunshine for almost a year now and it has been exciting. But when you’re not delivering what she wants, then you see her more militant side,” he said with a laugh.

Eloquent was born on November 8, 1981 and grew up in St. Catherine, St. Ann and Kingston. He discovered his talent in his Grandmother’s church and like most artistes, spent his lunch breaks at school singing and beating the desks with friends. “I’ve admired Bounty Killa and Mega Banton but Beenie Man has influenced me at one point in time,” he said. “But I sound different. I don’t try to sound like them. I have a different flow and different lyrics.” As a songwriter, Eloquent writes about what he sees around him. Eloquent wants to be remembered as “someone who contributed positively to the music.” After all, it is true that “if you nuh practice what you preach, you message nah go reach.”
