Alborosie Biography:

Alborosie, whose real name is Alberto D’Ascola, is an Italian reggae artist, musician, and producer known for his distinctive blend of reggae music infused with elements of dancehall, dub, and roots reggae. Born on July 4, 1977, in Marsala, Sicily, Italy, he grew up in a vibrant musical environment with a deep appreciation for Jamaican culture and music.

Alborosie’s journey into music began at a young age when he first discovered the sounds of reggae and became fascinated by its rhythms and messages of social justice and spirituality. Inspired by legends such as Bob Marley, Burning Spear, and Peter Tosh, he began honing his skills as a musician, initially playing the guitar and later mastering a wide range of instruments, including bass, drums, keyboards, and percussion.

He gained experience in the Italian reggae band Reggae National Tickets, from Bergamo City, when he was 15 years old in 1993, in which he was known as Stena.

In his late teens, Alborosie made the life-changing decision to move to Jamaica, the birthplace of reggae music, to immerse himself in its culture and further pursue his musical aspirations. Settling in the gritty streets of Kingston, he quickly became a part of the local music scene, collaborating with various artists and producers while working odd jobs to sustain himself.

Alborosie’s breakthrough came in the mid-2000s when he caught the attention of legendary reggae producer Clifton “Specialist” Dillon, who recognized his talent and offered him the opportunity to work at his Geejam Studios in Portland, Jamaica. Under Dillon’s mentorship, Alborosie refined his production skills and gained valuable experience working with some of the biggest names in reggae music.

In 2006, Alborosie released his debut album, “Soul Pirate,” which showcased his versatility as a musician and songwriter. The album received critical acclaim and established him as a rising star in the reggae scene. His unique vocal style, characterized by a deep, gravelly voice and powerful delivery, set him apart from other artists and earned him a devoted fan base worldwide.

Over the years, Alborosie has continued to build on his success with a string of hit albums and singles, including “Escape from Babylon” (2009), “2 Times Revolution” (2011), and Freedom & Fyah (2016). He has collaborated with numerous artists across genres, from reggae icons like Sly & Robbie and Capleton to mainstream acts like Shaggy and Pitbull.

In addition to his work as a solo artist, Alborosie is also a prolific producer, known for his studio wizardry and innovative approach to reggae music. He has produced tracks for a wide range of artists and has established his own record label, Forward Recordings, through which he champions up-and-coming talent in the reggae industry.

Beyond his musical endeavours, Alborosie is also a passionate advocate for social justice and environmental conservation. He frequently addresses political and social issues in his music, using his platform to raise awareness and inspire positive change.

Today, Alborosie continues to tour extensively, bringing his electrifying live performances to audiences around the world.
